AT A GLANCE
Departing from Chiang Mai—the capital of Northern Thailand—this guided jungle trek is led by an experienced English-speaking trekking guide. You’ll hike along seldom-used jungle trails, cross enchanting mountain landscapes, and discover the traditions of local hill tribe communities such as the Shan and Lahu people.
The adventure takes you through tea and coffee plantations, dense forest paths, mountain ridges, and forestry tracks, with the chance to taste freshly brewed local coffee overlooking the jungle. Spend two nights in rustic mountain lodges at 1,000 meters altitude, surrounded by nature and stunning views.
The trek concludes with a refreshing stop at a small waterfall before descending into the scenic Mae Taeng River Valley, where you’ll enjoy lunch at a riverside restaurant—and, during the hot season, perhaps swim or wade in the river.

Trip Outline
DAY 1: Mountain trek and overnight at home-stay
08:30 – Meet at your hotel in Chiang Mai before driving north to a peaceful valley, the starting point of your jungle trek. After a short briefing, begin your first hike—about one hour—before stopping for lunch at a local fruit orchard.
In the afternoon, continue trekking uphill as the landscape transforms with altitude. Walk through a serene bamboo forest before reaching a vast tea plantation shaded by tall, mature trees. The trail then leads to a welcoming local homestay, where you’ll spend the night in rustic comfort.
Your trekking guide will prepare a traditional dinner, and you may unwind by a campfire under the stars. Today’s hike covers approximately 7 km (about 5 hours), with mostly ascending trails.
[Meals: lunch and dinner]
DAY 2: Trekking - the longest trekking day
Start the morning with a hearty breakfast accompanied by locally grown tea or coffee from nearby plantations. Today’s trek will be more challenging, taking you along a variety of jungle paths and crisscrossing mountain trails. Follow scenic ridgelines under the jungle canopy, with occasional clearings offering panoramic views of the valley below.
A packed lunch will be enjoyed on the trail before continuing through cool bamboo forests, shaded by towering trees, and crossing a refreshing mountain stream. The final ascent brings you to a remote Lahu village, where you’ll spend the night in simple yet welcoming accommodation—a rustic mountain lodge with a spacious bamboo terrace overlooking the valley.
Your guide will prepare dinner, giving you time to relax and absorb the peaceful atmosphere. Today’s hike covers 14 km (6–7 hours), with a mix of ascents and descents.
[Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner]
DAY 3: Morning trek, waterfall and drive back to Chiang Mai
Enjoy a final breakfast on the terrace with sweeping views over the valley before setting out on the last stage of your jungle trek. Today’s journey features a scenic three-hour descent into the Mae Taeng River Valley, with a refreshing stop at a picturesque waterfall along the way.
At the valley’s edge, relax with a traditional Thai lunch at a riverside restaurant. This is the perfect chance to unwind, dip your feet in the water, or simply watch local life along the river—especially pleasant during the warmer season.
In the afternoon, transfer back to Chiang Mai city, where participants will be dropped off at their hotels. Today’s hiking distance is approximately 7 km (about 3 hours), mostly descending.
[Meals: breakfast and lunch].

"We had a fantastic 3 day trek with just the two of us and our guide Sap, who was great fun and very knowledgeable. Sap taught us lots about the various trees, plants and the local culture - I would like to say wildlife too, but there sadly wasn’t a lot to be seen, apparently due to over hunting. It is certainly off the beaten track and we only saw a few locals on the whole trek. The countryside, the views and especially the sunsets were stunning.
The trekking was quite strenuous at times on tiny trails through the forests, but Sap kept a manageable pace with plenty of time to stop and enjoy the amazing views. The food (also cooked by Sap) was excellent and the homestays were basic but lovely, with beautiful views and sunsets. In the evening we chatted around the fire and Sap cooked sticky rice in bamboo.
The whole experience felt very authentic and special, and we would not hesitate to recommend the trip."
(Thank you, Louise, for your insightful review of this trekking experience.)

Yes, we provide sleeping bags and/or blankets, along with small pillows, for your comfort during your stay. You'll be sleeping under mosquito nets to ensure a good night's rest. Our accommodations are rustic, but we believe it's a unique experience that's worth the simplicity. Note that bathrooms are located outside the main house, and hot water is available only at our first accommodation. On the second night, you'll need to make do without hot water. Please bring your own towel (quick dry synthetic fabric recommended).
Yes, during the cold season (November to end of February) nights can get chilly in altitude. Bring a fleece and some long pants for the night. A full packing list and update season information will be sent to you after your trip registration.
Snake Encounter: Although rare, snakes have been spotted on our treks in the past. Don't worry - your guide is trained to identify and handle any potential encounters, keeping you safe.
Trekking Poles: Feel free to bring your own or we can provide them for you. Just ask your guide on the first day and we'll get you set up with a locally made bamboo trekking pole.
Noisy? yes, it is definitely noisy in the Lahu village (the second night). The first night is more remote and secluded, so it's usually quiet. If you are sensitive, we recommend you to bring some ear plugs (useful for your entire trip, as noise is often omnipresent throughout the country).
