Sit on top kayaks are great as they are easy to use for beginners!
At Active-Thailand, we provide participants with a quality fleet of single and double sit-on-top kayaks, ideal for safe and enjoyable paddling in Northern Thailand. Our sturdy FeelFree brand kayaks are molded plastic with built-in air chambers, making them durable, stable, and virtually unsinkable.
Sit-on-top kayaks are perfect for lake paddling and especially family-friendly, as two people can share one boat—ideal for parents with younger children. Beginners will find them easy to handle, and after a short safety briefing from our experienced staff, you’ll quickly gain confidence and enjoy maneuvering your kayak.
Lake paddling in Chiang Mai offers calm, sheltered waters with no waves or strong currents, making it the perfect environment for first-time kayakers to experience the fun of paddle sports in a safe setting.

Activities: Kayaking, cycling, and waterfall fun
Overnight: Comfortable hotel stay on the main land - near the lake
Trip length: 2 days/1 night
Level: Active trip, for participants in good physical condition.
(Activities can be adapted to participants abilities, therefore suitable for younger children).
During this exploration trip you'll spend the night in a resort on the National Park's outskirt, pedal a mountain-bike in the valley, paddle sit-on-top on the scenic Mae Ngat dam, part of the Sri Lanna National park, and have fun at the renowned "sticky" Buatong waterfall.
Your guide will meet you at your Chiang Mai hotel before departing for the Mae Taeng Valley and Sri Lanna National Park. Here, the scenic Mae Ngat Dam lies surrounded by jungle-clad mountains.
After a short safety briefing and preparation, paddle across the calm waters of the reservoir to reach a cluster of exotic floating raft house restaurants. Lunch is available at the raft house (not included), followed by free time to relax or swim.
In the late afternoon, enjoy a gentle paddle back toward the shore, with the option to time your return for a stunning sunset over the lake. A short vehicle transfer takes you to your hotel, where a delicious set Thai dinner awaits.
After breakfast at the hotel, set out on a guided cycling tour through the Mae Taeng Valley. The bike loop typically covers 15–20 km, though distances can be adapted to your preferences since this is a private trip.
Lunch is enjoyed at a local restaurant before continuing to the Buatong Waterfall, famously known as the “Sticky Waterfall,” where mineral deposits make it possible to walk and climb up the cascades.
After plenty of fun at the falls, return transfer to Chiang Mai city with hotel drop-off.
